Along with spies, many other acts of espionage took place. One of the most famous secret projects is the Manhattan project. The Manhattan project was essentially the building of the atomic bomb. Extremely confidential, the project was kept under wraps until the bombing of Hiroshima and then Nagasaki.
What would a spy be without their tools? Although still rudimentary, spy gadgets were beginning to be introduced. The national Spy museum in Washington D.C. showcases a variety of world war two concealed weapons. the two most iconic weapons were the umbrella rifle and the lipstick pistol. the umbrella rifle was a simple M1 rifle concealed by the outer workings of an umbrella. the umbrella would fold down giving the marksman a clear shot. Last but not least the lipstick pistol, yes ladies it's real. a standard pistol bullet concealed in the metal casing of a lipstick tube. With an extremely short range, the lipstick pistol was very likely a self defense weapon for female field operatives.
